Formed in 2006 by vocalist/guitarist and main songwriter, James Young, and drummer and co-songwriter, Tom Vallely. The lyrical themes revolve around nature and the ocean, exploration and history. The band released their debut album, 'Philosopher of the Sublime' in May 2010 through London based experimental label Paradigms Recordings. This introductory album saw the band use a soundtrack-like approach to their music in which influences as far flung as Dead Can Dance were evident. Most of the material on the debut album derives from the unreleased 2006 demo, and was recorded between April 2008 and March 2009.
In early 2010 Orpheus began writing their follow-up release, 'The Mind's Exotica', and this was recorded between August-October 2010. The style present on this EP shows a different approach than that on the debut album.
