Mercurine is the duo of Mera Roberts and Byron Brown, formed in Los Angeles, CA in 2000. Mercurine was started by Mera Roberts upon moving from her hometown of Chicago, IL to Los Angeles, CA. Byron Brown answered an ad placed by Roberts seeking a collaborator, and was a fast fit with the early songwriting efforts of Roberts, who was also collaborating with fellow Chicagoan Viktor Phoenix. Roberts and Brown quickly began developing the sound and concept of the band, while Phoenix soon left the group to pursue film and game soundtrack work.
Though Mercurine is a duo, live performances have always included a drummer and a bassist in addition to frontwoman Mera Roberts and guitarist Byron Brown. These performance members change from time to time, making a chance likelihood of watching the same line-up twice. Performers who have joined Mercurine onstage include drummers Stevyn Grey, Tom Coyne, Ken Mundy and Brian Allemana; bassists include Oren "O-Dog" Karpovsky, Bart Sinister, and Michael Verzani.
