Tanghetto is a Buenos Aires-based band that focuses its material in the combination of Argentine tango with electronic music, jazz and other musical genres. The ?Tanghetto sound? is rather unique; it's a fusion of diverse sources of inspiration, both contemporary and traditional, that converge in Buenos Aires with the bandoneon (the nostalgic and characteristic instrument of the tango). Bandoneon takes the singer's role and is surrounded by diverse acoustic instruments and a sonic wall of synths and samplers.

Max Masri (the youngest and last disciple of the late tango legend Virgilio Exposito) brought from Germany, as early as in 1997, the idea of a music of mixed origins. Having lived among argentine emigrants and refugees made him understand what rootlessness was about.
Tanghetto started out in 2001 when those ideas were put together in musical pieces. The release of "Emigrante" two years later was the beginning of a time of acknolwedgement for the band. The album was nominated for a Latin Grammy Award in 2004 and became platinum in 2005. ?Emigrante? is a concept album, inspired in the Argentine diaspora of 2001/2002. The songs recall the experiences of migrants in the ?Little Argentinas?, communities of argentines living abroad. The very name ?Tanghetto? (the combination of the words ?tango? and ?ghetto?) is a reference to that idea. ?Emigrante? set the musical base for the band's particular approach to the music In 2004 ?Hybrid Tango? was released, as a side project from the band's members. This album reached gold and was also nominated for a Latin Grammy. ?Hybrid? expanded Tanghetto's musical range including elements of jazz and other south american rhythms.
In 2005, in collaboration with several DJs, ?Buenos Aires Remixed? is released. This gold album included, resides 12 remixes from songs of previous releases, two cover versions from british bands Depeche Mode (?Enjoy the Silence?) and New Order (?Blue Monday?). The latter was included in the soundtrack from the movie ?La Mujer de mi Hermano? and thus had important diffusion in Mexico and the United States. In the US the track entered diverse charts like college radios, alternative, etc. Between 2005 and 2007, after consolidating their live performances in argentine stages, Tanghetto toured around the world, showing their music in more than 20 countries. Tanghetto's world tour included dates in the US, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico (where they played 19 concerts with an attendance of more than 50,000 people countrywide), etc.
In 2006 the first live DVD (?Live in Buenos Aires?) was released. It showed a complete concert plus some videoclips, some of them alredy in MTV rotation at that time.
During the 2007 european tour they recorded a BBC Unplugged in London for BBC's World Service.
In 2008 ?El Miedo a la Libertad? was released. The path started in Emigrante and Hybrid Tango goes even farther. The album is currently nominated for a Gardel Award, the argentine equivalent of the Grammy.
The 2008/2009 Tour (called ?Tour de la Libertad?) reached (and will reach) cities such as London, Paris, Roma, Vienna, Milano, Venezia, Torino, Napoli, Palermo, Salerno, Verona, Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt, Karlsruhe, Hannover, Dresden, Leipzig, Schwerin, Kassel, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Den Haag, Groningen, Istanbul, Thessaloniki, Buenos Aires, Montevideo, S?o Paulo, Santiago de Chile, Guayaquil, Quito, Bogot?, Guayaquil, Quito, Bogot?, etc.
