OD

OD (also known as Omid ), Los Angeles underground hip hop producer OD is also the name of a Swedish indie artist from Stockholm. His latest album became available at last.fm in January 2011. His music has been compared to Nick Cave and Leonard Cohen, but the sound in some of the songs also puts him among more electronic sounding bands (very popular in Sweden at this time). He himself refuses to label his music or restrict it to any certatin genre.

The themes of his songs are often dark and seemingly based on personal experience, but OD has not confirmed nor denied this, claiming that it is more important that everyone makes their own interpretation.

OD is also the alias of neo of the unison crew:
DJ neo began buying records at age 14, inspired by his older brothers interest in vinyl and dance music and got his first set of turntables, Citronic PD-1's at age 16 - initially playing house, breaks, acid jazz, broken beat, trance and whatever took his fancy he finally settled on drum n bass following meeting with a devoted junglist at 6 th Form College - DJ Funktion. He then got a set of technics 1210's and a decent mixer and the rest, as they say, is history.

Studying at the University of Sussex in Brighton, he then met up with Hasty, Niterider and MC Skilf and started Darklight - the night went from strength to strength starting at the Volks Club then moving to the Ocean Rooms where it is currently based.

Neo's selection is heavily based in liquid, rolling drum n bass with a particular emphasis on hospital recordings - their approach to the sound has always been of interest to him. Although a definite liquid head, Neo's style is highly adaptable and he can produce a set of any style if required. He owns vinyl reflecting the entire spectrum of drum n bass. He would always be quick to dismiss the idea that liquid drum n bass is always chilled and cannot rock a dancefloor - to this end neo always strives to select tunes that will educate and entertain at the same time. Neo loves to tease and double drop but uses these techniques sparingly to achieve the best result.
