Day Of Contempt

Day of Contempt were a metalcore band from Adelaide, South Australia. Formed in 1997, they became an integral part of the burgeoning Adelaide underground hardcore scene before gaining widespread recognition and respect on a national scale. After releasing two cassette demos and a pair of EPs (Where Shadows Lie and See Through the Lies), as well as undertaking countless tours across Australia, USA, Europe and Japan, Day of Contempt relocated in mid-2004 to the Los Angeles/Orange County area. Signing with Epitaph, the band released one further EP, 2005's The Will to Live.

After releasing two cassette demos and a pair of EPs (Where Shadows Lie and See Through the Lies), as well as undertaking countless tours across Australia, USA, Europe and Japan, Day of Contempt relocated in mid-2004 to the Los Angeles/Orange County area. Signing with Epitaph, the band released one further EP, 2005's The Will to Live. Soon afterwards, founding member Tom Deverix quit the band for personal reasons and, with Ben Coyte returning to Australia, Day of Contempt broke up later that year.

Since quitting the band and returning to Australia, founding Day of Contempt member and vocalist Ben Coyte briefly played guitar for Carpathian, before forming Melbourne outfit In Trenches. The remaining members of Day of Contempt reformed as OC-based band The Dear & Departed, although Simon O'Gorman and Joel Bourne both left that band in late 2008. There have also been rumours of a possible Day of Contempt reunion tour in Australia, although the possible lineup is unclear.

Day of Contempt toured with or supported international artists including Good Charlotte, Bleeding Through, AFI, Underoath, Alexisonfire, Unwritten Law, Strung Out, The Mad Caddies, H20, One King Down, Throwdown and Ensign, as well as Australian acts such as 28 Days, I Killed the Prom Queen, Frenzal Rhomb and Superheist.
