Iceburn

Iceburn is the predecessor of The Iceburn Collective. Hailing from Salt Lake City, Utah, Iceburn is a band that has gone through as many style changes as band members, always revolving around original forming member Gentry Densley. Starting out as a 5 piece in 1990, formed from the ashes of the late 80s SLC hardcore scene and taking in members of both Insight and Brainstorm, their first 7" was somewhat of a Quicksand influenced post-hardcore style. Soon after they became a 3 piece and changed to a more classical and jazz inspired art-metal-core for the Firon release on Victory records.

Soon after they became a 3 piece and changed to a more classical and jazz inspired art-metal-core for the Firon release on Victory records. After this the band went through other eras, some which were both more math-rock influenced, and others taking cues from Mahavishnu Orchestra-inspired jazz fusion, always with experimental and diverse soundscapes. As Iceburn they released records on Victory and Revelation up until 1996 - as the lineup of the band became more fluid, in 1996 the ensemble started going under the name The Iceburn Collective, which better reflected the ever-shifting membership.

One interesting thing this band did was perform some of Stravinsky's Rite of Spring live. It left the moshers a little confused but it was a great performance. Gentry Densley was really the main core member and driver of this group and is a very skilled and educated musician. He now plays in Ascend and Eagle Twin.

Bassist Cache Tolman went on to play with Rival Schools in the 2000's.

Original singer Jeremy Chatalain went on to become Cub Country, as well as singing for Handsome.
