The Candles

In 2009, Josh Lattanzi, best known for his work recording and touring with Albert Hammond, Jr. (The Strokes), Ben Kweller and the Lemonheads, formed The Candles. The album, Between the Sounds, marked Lattanzi's debut as a songwriter and was released in April 2010 by the End Records to widespread acclaim. The album was recorded in New York City and Celeste TX with John Kent (Ben Kweller) as producer and drummer. While Lattanzi plays the guitars and bass on the album, there are several notable guest appearances including James Iha.

Spin Magazine featured The Candles in their Best of SXSW 2010 coverage stating that their "sweet melodies in three-part harmony over ambling rhythms and laconic guitar" were reminiscent of the "golden charms of '70s singer-songwriters like James Taylor and Harvest-era Neil Young" and "executed with Lattanzi's emotional precision and sure sense of craft [Between the Sounds] still holds the power to be as moving as watching the sun set over Topanga Canyon."

Rolling Stone Magazine reviewed the record in their August 2010 issue and said: " With the deaths of Big Star's Alex Chilton and Andy Hummel, it's been a bad year for fans of Seventies power pop. Some small good news: this taut 10-song debut. Leader Josh Lattanzi has played with Fountains of Wayne's Adam Schlesinger and toured with the Lemonheads' Evan Dando, and he can be fairly judged by the company he keeps.?

The Candles completed two US and one Australian tour and played over 75 shows in 2010. The band developed organically on the road and now officially includes Jason Roberts, Matt Pynn, Pete Remm and Pete Caldes. They are currently working on the follow up to Between The Sounds.
