The Rubettes bagen as a UK session outfit in 1973. Eventually they created a glam rock look (red and white suits with matching caps) and combined it with a rock & roll revival sound (hence their name, which harks back to the halcyon days of 50's America) to begin their assault on the charts. Their best-known record is their first release, 1974's "Sugar Baby Love," which was an immediate and long-standing hit, with the poignant lyric Showaddywaddy Much like other 70's glam bands, The Rubettes reformed numerous times with different line-ups to tour on the nostalgia circuit well into the 2000s.
