Dominic Moore and Sergio Leone would get along. Moore tackles the good, the bad, and the ugly. From disenfranchised misfits to street hustlers turned heroes, from fear of the unknown to love finally gone right, from "garbage men" to Cadillacs. It's all there. Starting out in upstart post-roots bands like Abe Lincoln, Fieldbook, and The Esperanto Ensemble, Moore truly found his voice on the appropriately-titled Dominic Moore Sings His Heart Out.

Recorded mostly in his Brooklyn apartment, Dom's album got help from friends and loved ones. Paul Jacobsen, another great singer-songwriter, added vocal and guitar on Zanzibar and New York City. (Check out Paul's recording with Dominic singing backup on CD Baby or iTunes.) The Esperanto Ensemble, add some rock and experimentation that had been hinted at in previous albums, their avante garde and jazz-tinged style mixes with influence of Pavement, Sonic Youth, and Wilco. Dominic's wife Katie- inspiration behind most of the positivity on this album- also lends her voice on a few tracks. With a pure and almost childlike voice she helps add integrity and feeling to Honkey Tonk and Sooner or Later.
But those weren't the only guests. Among the hand claps, acoustic guitars, and harmonies of this predominantly folk record, a unique instrument is heard: an answering machine. "I mixed in a lot of answering machine messages, it has become my most used tool of communication and it captured moments and feelings in a way I never could". Mixed in with the moments of family and friends is a message from none other than LL Cool J (New York City). "I came home one day to check my messages, and there was a prerecorded message from him promoting some local radio station. I laughed about it for a couple of days, and then realized I could use it on the record."
Dominic Moore Sings Heart Out is a milestone for this powerful singer-songwriter. Both fierce and vulnerable, these songs give insight to the artist as well as the listener and the world at large.
