Discovery of Magnetic North

Discovery of Magnetic North (sometimes referred to as Disco Magno) is the brainchild of physicist/musican Richard Jerousek and artist/musician Brian Phillips. They have been performing live under the Discovery of Magnetic North moniker since July 2004. Discovery of Magnetic North is an experimental electronic music duo based in the Southeast United States of America, contrary to their fictional biography which holds they are a public relations corporation for a purported northern european country known as Old North Newkingslandbury.

Texturally dark, the sound of Discovery of Magnetic North is typified by sampled live drum work, with analog warmth of warped tape distortion and vintage midi keyboards. Heavily instrumental in nature, vocals are employed in Discovery of Magnetic North tracks sparingly. Haunting melodies run throughout their body of work, evocative of the 70's soundtracks of educational film documentaries that serve as a heavy influence in their creations.
