Detroit Transit Railroad is an indie alt-classic rock band known for playing an eclectic variety of music. The two founding members are Justin Gohde and Michael Alan Shifflett, who first played together in Richmond, Virgina as part of the group The Scene. They have recorded a huge amount of material for their label, S.C.U.B.A. Records, under a number of different band names. Aaron Lowery and S. Stuart joined the Detroit Transit Railroad and, after a few years, they released their self-titled debut in 2006.
For their first studio recording, Detroit Transit Railroad collaborated with Kevin Willoughby from TreccaTrak Recordings.
Their musical style is highly influenced by traditional musical styles popular in the Southeastern United States, and includes elements of Classic Rock, Southern Rock, Alternative and Country. They have most often been described as Alternative Classic Rock.
