Derek Singleton is a man of change and contradictions. He was brought up in Texas but now lives in Germany. He fronts a Rock'n'Roll band called the TriSonics, but also has a penchant for writing melancholy folk songs. Though fiercely independent, he is a devoted family man. He used to have a job. Now he performs music. The music is slow and gentle while the stories tell of constant motion and radical change.
The music is slow and gentle while the stories tell of constant motion and radical change. The songs of longing and sorrow; of conviction and love are appropriately delivered using vocals and guitar only, although the recurring theme of space travel could lead you to suspect other musical styles. In its pensive tone, Horizon is a little reminiscent of Jeff Buckley, but it never plunges to the depths of despair, pointing instead to the hope of redemption that lies somewhere just beyond sight ?somewhere out on the horizon.
