Doodles in the margins of notebooks rarely turn into musical endeavors, but for Matt Meylikhov, rarely was the only direction to move in. Doodles turned into characters; characters into biographies; and biographies into back stories. Set to music, everything convenes to become the Chronicles of A06, the story of a robot assassin who gains conscious thought. ?Things like this interest me more,? said Matt.
?I like concept albums and all, but I always like them so much more when there are several albums to go to one big story.? Creating an album of acoustic demos, Matt eventually connected A06 with producer Casey Crescenzo of The Receiving End of Sirens and The Dear Hunter. The first volume in this (tentatively) five part saga, titled The Dark Tower Of Cypher Lecleur was completed June 2007 and is awaiting an official release date further in the year. In this album, we see the ?awakening? of A06 and the actions that he takes which set forth into motion the changing of his entire universe.
A06's combination of catchy melodies and intricate guitar riffs is a blend that is the reason listeners come back for more. ?Harmonies are important to me, both in the vocals and in the guitar parts, and since I was the only one working on the first album, I made sure to have all the parts interlocked with one another.? But it doesn't just stop with the music. ?There is a lot I want to do with this story. I want to find an interesting way to convey the story I wrote and am playing around with several ideas. But all in all, it should be fun. I'm insanely dedicated to this project.?
With perseverance like no other and a mind set in action, Matt pushes forward with his first completed album, hoping to get it out and available before the end of Summer 2007. Stay tuned for more information on the album, the music, the story, and all things A06.
