Dave Carter went to Nashville and tried to break into the country songwriting business. That he did not succeed--that his songs were too rich, too complex, too lyrically dense, too strange and wonderful--was the folk world's gain. Dave Carter joined forces with fellow Portlander Tracy Grammer in the mid-1990s. Together they recorded three phenomenally well-received albums and cris-crossed the country, before Dave's untimely death in 2002 brought a sudden end to the duo's meteoric rise.

The final Dave Carter & Tracy Grammer album, Seven Is The Number, was released in 2006.
