Darunam was founded in New York City in early 2007 when two accomplished artists, lead singer and saxophonist Manu Narayan and guitarist and composer Radovan Jovicevic, decided to dedicate themselves to a new full-time music project. Their first EP and music video, "All That's Beautiful Must Die", were recently released and have already been making a hug splash. Over 150,000 people on dozens of Clear Channel Network radio station websites have already listened to the first single, "All That's Beautiful Must Die".
The music video for this single was directed by Nusrat Durrani of MTV World and stars Janina Gavankar of Showtime's "The L Word" as well as Marta Reiman. It is set to air on several MTV stations.
Manu Narayan's vocal accomplishments range from singing with Cyndi Lauper and The Band's Garth Hudson to performing for dignitaries that include Queen Elizabeth II, President George W. Bush, Prince Phillip, Prince Charles, Prince Andrew, and Senator Hillary Clinton. He has co-wrote and recorded singles for the film "And Then Came Love" starring Vanessa Williams and the film "Hiding Divya". Manu is also an award winning classical saxophonist in South Indian Karnatic music, which he studied with Indian saxophonist Kadri Gopalnath in Mangalore, India. Touring most of South India, he played with some of the subcontinents most accomplished musicians.
In addition to his musical career Manu Narayan is an accomplished actor who has acted on and off Broadway and on TV and Film. Manu's latest project has him costarring with Mike Myers in the new film "The Love Guru" that also stars Jessica Alba, Ben Kingsley, Justin Timberlake, Romany Malco, Meagan Good, and Verne Troyer. As an actor Manu is most widely known for originating the "hero" Akaash in the hit Andrew Lloyd Webber/A.R. Rahman musical "Bombay Dreams" on Broadway for which he garnered a New York Drama League nomination. He also can be seen in episodes of "The Sopranos", "Law and Order SVU", and "As the World Turns".
Radovan Jovicevic has enjoyed huge success as a songwriter and musician with his previous European based band Zana. In addition, he has written numerous award-winning hits for other European artists. As the founder, songwriter and lead guitarist for Zana, Radovan earned six Gold Records, three Platinum Records and collectively sold over 5,000,000 records. His music has been used for countless movies, commercials and music videos. He is the recipient of many European Grammy and Emmy awards for his body of work. Radovan is not only an accomplished touring star but also an incredible songwriter and musician. He pioneered synthpop and use of ethno motifs in popular music.
