Jamison Covington is a highly talented rock singer. He was once a part of the band Jamisonparker, and is currently working on his own band Covington. He believes that music should be your own thing, and thinks that you should not sound like anything else that is out there. Jamison Covington was born in the small town of Guthrie, Kentucky, in 1981. Guthrie is such has such a small school, that Jamison was never offered any music programs.
So how did he learn to play the guitar? Jamison taught himself to play the guitar, at age 16, by listening to Screeching Weasel albums over and over again.
From his house, Jamison could see the Tennessee boarder. Guthrie is very close to Nashville, and a lot of inspiration came from the artists so close to home. When he was little, he didn't like country music, but now he likes it. In his own words, ??I went through a period when I was in junior high and preteens where I really hated country. I didn't really give it the respect it deserves and as time goes on I'm realizing how amazing these country artist's are, and now I'm a huge fan of country music. Thinking back I wish I had taken advantage of being so close. Like Hank Williams Sr. and Willie Nelson, there is so much talent there. I wish I had gone to the original Grand Ole Opry before they moved it to the new place. I wish I would've at least gone to the old one for the history of it and the culture.? He also got inspiration from when he was a little kid, and his mom would play John Denver for him, and of course as any other artist, the radio.
When Jamison was 19, he figured that, musically, he wasn't getting anywhere. So he decided to move to Orange County, California. Soon after that he made a demo, and met Parker Case. The two became friends, and formed a band, known as Jamsionparker. The band was quickly signed by Interscope records. They were produced by Ken Andrews. He encouraged them to do there own thing. With Jamison writing powerful lyrics and Parker composing original music there was nothing like them. Jamison said that he usually writes about stuff that is happening to him then, and that some of his lyrics are to personal to let the public hear. On October 28th, 2003, the bands first EP came out, called Notes and Photographs. A couple years later the band came out with Sleepwalker, on July 12th, 2005. Jamison's favorite song off of that album is tearing through me. They made a music video for Best Mistake, but they're success shortly ended. The band broke up around the end of that November, when Jamison decided that he wanted to explore his musical talents alone.
So Jamison left the busy life of California, and went back to his much missed state, Kentucky. He is working on his solo band called Covington. Originally though, Covington was called Dance with the Dead. He changed the name because he found that it was to depressing for the more upbeat music he was making.
Jamison is a unique and prevailing artist. He puts a nice twist on the usual song topics, and has lead an interesting life.
