Formed in January 2001,Cognac is a band which defies categorisation. Three years down the line, they have gone through a number of line-up changes, gigged all over the place and had their fare share of good times and bad times. They cover bands as diverse as Living Colour,Radiohead,311,Coldplay,The Beatles,Travis,Red Hot Chili Peppers,Ocean Color Scene,Pearl Jam,Live,Led Zep,Toad the Wet Sprocket,Deep Purple,Tom Petty,Crowded House,Run DMC and Massive Attack among many, many others at their gigs.

It is their wide range of influences that gives their own originals a distinct and very unusual sound.
The band as also done gigs at various venues in Calcutta including Someplace Else,Science City,Planet M,Music World,IIT Kharagpur, the Srijan Rooftop and Nazrul Manch.
The band members have individually performed in numerous other local bands including Span,Sound Check,Skinny Alley,Paras Pathar,Nebula and Trishul, among many others.
In 2003,their first ever recorded demo,a song called Through Your Eyes was selected for the 7th edition of the Great Indian Rock festival, and they performed at the two legs of the festival in Bombay (Rang Bhavan) and New Delhi (Pragati Maidan).
They also did a gig at The Razzberry Rhinoceros in Bombay around the same time that was thoroughly enjoyed by all present.
In November 2003,they recorded more of their songs, this time with a bigger budget,at Studio Vibrations.
Two of these songs have already been put up on their website (www.cognacband.cjb.net) for download.
Though they havent played together in a while, owing to their own individual commitments, they hope to be able to play together again in a few months and take Calcutta (and hopefully the rest of the country) by storm.
