Growing up on a Seminole reservation in Florida's Big Cypress Swamp, Chief Jim learned about his people's ancestry, their legends and poetry and spirituality. He ate turtle meat and listened to ancient tales told by his grandfather. Chief Jim Billie also served in Vietnam, using lessons from his homeland swamps to survive. He is Chairman of the Seminole Tribe of Florida, and as such he serves as both eloquent statesman and political player. 1999 NAMA Debut Artist Winner, the music of Chief Jim Billie reflects the influences he grew up with on the Seminole Reservation.
