charlottesville were formed in 1999 by miles fender and iris lapalme, and are most often compared to a hybrid of the red house painters, radiohead and low. the band was born mainly out of miles' necessity for a change in musical style following his relocation from england to san francisco; formerly, he had fronted the british goth rock band Earth Calling Angela. debut album, 'the shark who pulled a mussel', was released in 2001 and was received very well by press and fans alike. the long awaited follow-up (recorded by miles alone) should be ready for release in late 2010.

charlottesville tend to focus on down-tempo, melodic music. often melancholy, always lush and inviting, their songs strive to capture the emotions of the listener with both acoustic and digital sounds, blended with intelligent lyrics to create a warm and entrancing whole. every song should tell a story, and charlottesville have many to tell.
