61 Cygni is an ethereal rock trio based in Houston, Texas. Guitarist/vocalist/lyricist Tessa Kole formed the band with her husband, bassist Paul Adams, and a revolving cast of drummers before settling on Eric Jarvis (who also lent live vocal harmonies) in 2003. That year saw the release of their debut album, Binaural Beatings, which features such fan favorites as "Thanks For Nothing" (for which a video was shot) and "Medication Nation".
This was followed three years later by Playing In The Halocline, a collection of live recordings culled from various gigs at Rudyard's Pub in Houston (most likely the Cygnis' most frequented stage). After the CD release party for Halocline, the band called an indefinite hiatus; however, the odd future gig has not been ruled out and several of their live highlights ("Burning Bridges", "Sleep Behold") remain unreleased. The band's influences include Curve, The Church, Spiritualized, Cocteau Twins, and Sonic Youth, whose "Shadow Of A Doubt" was covered by the group on Halocline.
