Instrumental Social mixes the new urban sounds of Brazil using technology; a dose of live instrumentation where ?60s soul-jazz and bossa beats gets a dash of ?70s samba-funk, forming the basis of well-crafted compositions. The sophisticated melodies dance out of the stereo as though they come straight from somewhere inside: intimate, clean, and beautiful. Needless to say, this is no revival work.

Electronic beats and subtle hip-hop rhythms mesh naturally with live drums and percussion, vintage keyboards and nylon guitars, with the jazzy trumpet of Brazil's of samba funk maestro and founder of Banda Black Rio - Barrosinho. The global influences are vast, but they're merely the springboards from which Pontual jumps to create his absurdly cool musical universe.

Combining a distinctly new, eclectic mix of influences from one of Brazil's best modern guitarist, with a live performance carrying more verve than any of their peers on the nu Brazilian jazz scene, Carlos Pontual appeals to the discerning listener as does the masters that influenced him throughout his career.
