Brophy was born in Texas but traveled overseas thru his early years. He has lived in Long Beach, Ca. for the past 30 or so years after making the scene in Ann Arbor/Detroit,Mi. area. Here he played in several bar bands such as the SailCatz playing with long time friend, piano player Al Hill. Brophy has his own trio that plays the Long Beach area. Dale released a CD in 2008 titled "Night Hawkin'," which features Dave Gore on bass and vocals, Dave Kida on the drums and Brophy on guiters and vocals.
He produced the CD and wrote several of the songs including, "Key Thang" which features saxman Jeff Turmes. He can also be found playing slide,and adding vocals along with some co-writting with the Lee Rocker Band,(x-StrayCats Bassist) . Which has performed worldwide and has several CD's that he performs on. The CD "Racin' the Devil", the 2003 release of "Bulletproof" and 2007's "Black Cat Bone",which was released on Alligator Records. Brophy has played with former Elvis sideman Scotty Moore at the 25 anniversary of Elvis' death. He has shared the stage with the likes of O.V.Wright, Dave Edmunds, and Delbert McClinton, as well as being some of his early influences. Brophy blends rock, blues, R&B,and some rockabilly riffs all with distinctive slide stylings.
