Baltimore singer-songwriter Brody Bond applies hope and longing for the way things ought to be to his somber sound in his debut release, Lovers Try. Taking over a year to record, the release has been met with great response, mostly by people being surprised by what they hear. Lovers Try is a journey through difficult subjects like the trappings of our Western world, the nature of real love, and a curiosity about how God looks at a broken world and broken hearts. Though it is honest about tough things, Lovers Try has a profound lining of hope in its lyrics.

"None of us have anything really figured out," Brody admits. "I want people to be ok with that. But I also want all of us to be asking better questions about our lives instead of condemning people for answers we don't like." Realizing that people's hearts are always being torn in different directions by different expectations, Brody Bond has created an album that has a similarly diverse feel.
While Lovers Try touches on many subjects and has many different sounds, the songs play together well. In fact, it's not until the end of the 4th track "One More Step" that the listener gets a sonic break. The album starts in one connected litany of songs about love. "Speed of Love" is about the idea of unconditional acceptance and feeds right into the most upbeat song on the album, "Especially Tonight" which is about the need to be with somebody. "Can't Figure Why" suddenly starts it's seductiveness as though it is describing the person sought after in "Especially Tonight." Then, without stopping the sound Brody sings about commitment issues in the best completely acoustic song on the album, "One More Step."
"People are connecting with this album," says Brody. "These are ideas that we all need to be discussing with our friends and in our communities. What is love? How are we secure? What's pretend and what is real? We're so often blinded by our privileges of living in the West, and maybe more so by how we are afraid of not meeting the expectations of our friends. I just want to be honest about the situations I find myself in because I think there is freedom in that honesty. Not just for me, but for whoever hears my songs too."
