The band, 40 Points, consists of four previous members of Harmonic Tribe...Micah Nelson on drums, Lukas Nelson on guitar, Andrew Kloppel on bass, and Tato Melgar on congas/percussion. They have created a whole new kickass sound, similar to the Tribe, yet something entirely their own. Their sound could best be described as a mix of Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Santana, the Beatles, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pink Floyd, Grateful Dead, the Allman Brothers, and Los Lonely Boys, to name a few.
They've played several shows on maui, including Charley's saloon in Paia, and the Maui Music Festival 2006, among others. The band was also just in Austin, TX. playing at the four seasons hotel for the world famous 'South by Southwest' music and media festival. They were there to launch the release of the new indie record label Pedernales Records, founded by Willie Nelson and producer James Stroud. 40 Points is the first band to be signed by the label! At last weekend's Willie Nelson's Family Picnic in Houston, Texas (it also stopped in Selma, TX), 40 Points opened for Willie Nelson and played backup as well.
Lukas Nelson played steamy guitar rifts -- at one point with his teeth and later behind his head -- while the band spun trippy backup. Genetics obviously influenced his voice, and it has an uncanny likeness to John Lennon's.
