Possessing a strong, emotional voice and an intelligent song craft, his music has often drawn comparisons to several great artists that search for the grey areas of integrity between artistic vision and pop sensibility - Jeff Buckley, Radiohead, U2, Bruce Springsteen and, occasionally, Don McLean and Leonard Cohen.
As a producer, he's molded sounds for the likes of The Boat People, Emma Dean and Hot Liquid Sex, but it's his direction as a singer and musician where Ben's passion lies.
In 2006, he released his debut album ? In The Absence Of Fear. Mostly just guitar and voice, this self-funded, self-produced and self-released project featured songs of love, loss, hope, paranoia and the many facets of the human condition. Although the scale was small, the album found its way into many hands and subsequently led to Ben supporting many nationally recognized artists such as Pete Murray, Old Man River, The Whitlams, Diesel, Bertie Blackman, Renee Geyer, Iota and Moving Pictures.
2007 saw Ben polish off a new group of songs that eventually formed the basis of his second album ? Social Architecture. Stepping up from the simplicity of his debut, the evolution of Ben's arrangements can only be matched by the songwriting itself.
The new material is already garnering attention. A demo of one album track took away a Q Music Award at the end of 2006 and the video for his first single ?Don't Let Go' is already playing in venues and on TV nationally.
Having already played a jaw-dropping performance with a string quintet and filmed a live DVD of the same nature in 2008, Ben will bring Social Architecture to the world. It's infectious vocal hooks and socially aware nature make Ben Stewart not only an artist with something to offer but also someone who's not afraid to wear his emotions, thoughts and beliefs loud and proud on his sleeve.
