Although originally conceived as a low-fi two man formation, Zoppo has developed in to a band whose alternative rock influences are drawn upon from the American and British indierock, such as Sebadoh, Hood, Sonic youth, Pedro the lion and Mogwai. Five years after the release of ?Les Aumonts' (2001 transformed Dreams/The Drowning man), an album that was greeted within the indie scene with universal critical acclaim, Zoppo from Amsterdam have recently released ?Don't trust scarred survivors' their fourth album.
With ?Don't trust scarred survivors' the quintet from Amsterdam have carried on unrelentlesly further where ?Les Aumonts' left off.
The biggest difference with the last album is that of approach, making this fourth album more concise and less web like in its content. The songs on ?Don't trust scarred survivors' have a more direct and powerful quality, allowing them to sound lively and inspired whilst losing none of the characteristic melancholy for which the band is known.
?Don't trust scarred survivors' allows, in unmistakable Zoppo style with tangible rawness and seductive silkiness in its execution, discord and harmony to amalgamate in a unique and moving way.
