Wild Dogs In Winter

The British band Wild Dogs in Winter formed in 2007 as the studio-project of Luke Payne and Rhys Baker. In late 2008 Luke and Rhys released their self-titled EP as a free download on Mine All Mine Records and a home made physical release through their own website. The EP quickly grasped the attention of FatCat Records and The Silent Ballet webzine with its mix of shoegaze, postrock, folk and electronics.

With growing success the two Wild Dogs recruited three good friends to make their live show ambitions a reality. Since turning into a five piece WDIW have shared the stage with Library Tapes, Maps & Atlases, Maybeshewill, Picastro, Youth Pictures of Florence Henderson and And So I Watch You From Afar.

Wild Dogs In Winter recorded their first full length album Homba in home studios during the winter of 2009-10. It's a work of remarkable beauty and maturity, and will doubtless engender comparisons to such outsider UK indie heroes as Hood, Crescent and Arab Strap. As with the work of these bands, it derives tension and melancholy from the juxtaposition of the rural and the urban: beautiful pastoral guitar lines are imbued with undercurrents of quiet menace through use of scrabbling electronic scree and grainy, heavily-processed synth textures.

Homba was recently co-released by Gravid Hands(UK) and Frontal Noize(BE). Since the release WDIW have played several high profile shows including a sold out FatCat label night with Chicago band Maps & Atlases. After having a successful tour of Belgium in December 2010 the band have been booked to play Dunk! Festival in April 2011 alongside Ef, Her Name Is Calla, Caspian, This Will Destroy You and God Is An Astranaut.
