White Pines began as a secondary outlet for singer/songwriter Joseph Scott. His primary band (Canada, Quite Scientific Records) went on a much needed break recently, which afforded Joseph the opportunity to spend some time living in Brooklyn. With more time on his hands, a homemade studio in his apartment, and more songs than he knew what to do with, Joseph's fledgling solo project soon developed into a full-time band. This EP is that band's first release, to be followed by another this summer, and recording is already underway for a full-length album, to be released in the coming winter.
?A Face Made of Wood EP? shows a songwriter finding his sea legs again, after extensive touring as a member of almost too many bands to count (most notably Canada, That's Him! That's The Guy!, and Saturday Looks Good To Me). The songs are hopeful and introverted, but with the melodies and elaborate instrumentation one would expect from this member of Michigan's fruitful folk scene.
