Bert Lochs is pretty wellknown amongst jazzlovers of all kind. He is considered one of the best trumpet players of his generation and his fierce trumpet and lyrical flugel sounded in many places and settings already. To reach this goal, he took lessons from Dutch jazz artists like Ack van Rooijen and Rob Madna, and played in several ensembles like Jeroen Pek Band, Bert Lochs/Dirk Balthaus Quartet, Big Bizar Habit, The Handsome Harry Company and Bert Lochs Inquisitive Quartet(BLIQ) all over Europe.
From North Sea Jazz Festival (last summer with his own trio!) to Montreux, BIM-huis to the Satchmo in Maribor, in all these places and more, his lyrical trumpet and his melancholy flugelhorn sounded. His style is abundant and introverted at the same time.
He is also busy developing as a composer for larger ensembles. He reached the finale of the Hoeilaert Jazzfestival International Composition Contest with his piece 'One for Me' in 2004, and recently the CD 'Wegsleepregeling van Kracht', was released. 24 poems by Dutch poet Hanz Mirck, surrounded, enhanced or commented by 24 pieces by Bert Lochs.
Last June, 2008, he wrote a set of pieces for a procession that took place in Arnhem because of the international art festival Sonsbeek.
Besides freelancer, he is part of the Guus Tangelder Bigband, part of the horn section in the dance classics band PFA and leads his own Trio Bert Lochs. His latest project is his new trio Lochs/Balthaus/Herskedal with trumpet, piano and tuba.
