Based in Tucson AZ, The Year of Acceleration formed in early 2004. Christopher O'Gorman and The Black Cat had been in numerous bands together. Jeremy Schultz had played with both before and Josh Harrison was brought in after a chance meeting. In the first 2 weeks the band had assembled 6 new songs. Shortly after that Matthieu and Marcus were drafted and it all started to come together. The songs are crafted with a Pop sort of sensibility.
To be more obvious, their music has been said to sound like a mix of The Cure and U2. Although the band takes influence from artists such as these, there is definitely more to it than that. The Tucson Weekly had this to say..."The band sounds as if it were lifted straight from '80s-era Sire Records, all hugely chiming guitars and reverb-heavy dramatic vocals...And while that may be the case with 85 percent of the bands currently taking to stages across this vast country of ours, the fact is that Year principals, the O'Gorman brothers, have had a similar sound for years now (pun intended), way before The Killers and The Bravery were bitch-slapping each other in the press. They've always had an arena-huge sound, and with The Year of Acceleration they've added darker elements ? la The Cure and Echo and the Bunnymen. More power to 'em for sticking to their guns. " The band released their debut LP entitled ?Used to have a life? in August ?05. Although still an "unsigned" band, The Year of Acceleration are working to get their message across to whoever will listen.
