The New Groove Orchestra is a young and hip 10-piece funk band that embraces the old-school R&B style and performs with the energy of a rock band combined with jazz musicality. The band features unique instrumentation, which includes a tight 5-piece horn section and soulful female vocals. In a live setting, the Orchestra has become known for its spontaneity, incorporating improvised jams and extended solo sections. Formed in late 2005 by students in the Jazz Program at McGill University, NGO's unique sound fuses Jazz, Funk, R&B and Hiphop, making for intellectual but always groovy music.
The New Groove Orchestra is very active in the Montreal scene, and has just released their first full-length album, ?illharmonic? (10 originals).
