The Names That Spell is comprised of five musical units who have been playing together since 2001. They are interested in polyrhythms. All five units are trained professionals in sound production & reinforcement. The five members rotate between ukulele, synthesizer, zither, saxophone, mbira, & electric guitar. During live performances, The Names That Spell make their eclectic set up sound like a psychedelic orchestra, using live loops & signal processing. Percussionists Lucas Elenitsky & Matt Plaskota duel each other with perverse rhythms on their Siamese twin drum set.

Multi-instrumentalists Josh Johnson, Chase, & Evan Staley, create harmonic conversations that are rooted in jazz as they strive towards more intricate popular song structures, conjuring manic moods & beautiful melodies. The compositions created by these musicians
are whimsical melodic explorations complimented by uncanny meter & gender
manipulations.
They are independently recorded, produced, engineered, and distributed, but their performances
are manifestations of collective effervescence that transcend independence...
