The Lampshades were formed in early 2003 in central Pennsylvania by lead singer/guitarist Jaren Love. Along with Love, The Lamphades consisted of drummer Josh Imler and bassist Christopher Kibler. The Lampshades early releases included the lo-fi gems "Demo 1", "Demo 2", "Scott", "Random" and "Surf". Although these early discs were hand assembled with jewel cases, CD-Rs and handwritten liner notes, the music caught the ears of some people in the music biz, including video producer Jonathan Buchanan and Prison Jazz Records.

Scranton, PA based label, Prison Jazz Records, released The Lampshades debut album, "Sunshine" in summer, 2005.
In the fall of 2005, Scott Kessler (later of Parasol) joined as second guitarist.
After recording their second album, The Lampshades parted ways with Kessler and founding member Josh Imler. Chris Leiden soon joined on drums and Brady Lanzendorfer joined on rhythm guitar.
In July 2006 The Lampshades released their second album, "Surprise!" on their own label, Soap Bar Records.
A third album with local musician Dane Adelman on drums/recording and engineering is in the works and was recorded and released in summer 2008 with short tours around the mid-Atlantic and midwestern United States.
The band began work on a 7" with the songs "Police Scanner" and "No Other Direction." The 7" was never released but the songs were posted on the band's myspace page and a few blogs. The band went on an indefinite hiatus in late 2009.
