(There is more than one artist by this name - this article refers to Australian band "The Basics" who have released the records 'Keep Your Friends Close', 'Stand Out/Fit In', 'Call It R&B', 'For Girls Like You' and 'Get Back') The Basics, whose musical style could loosely be described as heavily referencing 60s pop and rock (such as The Beatles, The Beach Boys, The Kinks etc) with elements of rock 'n' roll, reggae and rhythm and blues mixed in,were formed after Kris Schroeder and Wally de Backer met at a party in Melbourne.
The Basics, whose musical style could loosely be described as heavily referencing 60s pop and rock (such as The Beatles, The Beach Boys, The Kinks etc) with elements of rock 'n' roll, reggae and rhythm and blues mixed in,were formed after Kris Schroeder and Wally de Backer met at a party in Melbourne. Initially they played around Melbourne as an acoustic guitar/drums combo, but when they later welcomed Michael Hubbard on electric guitar, Wally told Kris, "I caught you a delicious bass" and the power trio was born. Tim Heath joined the group in June 2004, after Michael decided to pursue his solo career. Dave Bramble joins the band on tour, playing keys, often while sporting a large moustache.
Their live performances are well known for their sense of humour and energy. Covers frequently make an appearance from various sources: to date, some of the bands covered have been Cream, The Kinks, The Police, New Kids on the Block and The Coasters (via The Beatles for their cover of Three Cool Cats).
