Technicolor Hobo's music is a mixture of different colours, shades and textures floating in a universe with no fixed abode and their destination: to take the music out of their own imagination and together reach new dimensions and horizons, and to keep the music fresh and exciting, for the group and audience/listener. All members are from different musical scopes, adding their own touch to form a sound that takes you on an adventure through different atmospheres and emotions. Each musician is not ?out to impress' with their own musical abilities and the instrumentation is kept to a minimal.
All members are from different musical scopes, adding their own touch to form a sound that takes you on an adventure through different atmospheres and emotions. Each musician is not ?out to impress' with their own musical abilities and the instrumentation is kept to a minimal. It's the layering and interlinking that creates the overall impact. The seventh member of the group is ?silence'. The music swings in a million directions, an audio landscape, enticing you with the hypnotic warm melodies and the listeners are invited to participate actively by using their own imagination as a source of visual inspiration. You want to dance or just sit with your eyes closed in a world of your own then all options are possible and pleasurable when listening to Technicolor Hobo.
As Transformer, Dark side of the moon or LA Woman, Technicolor Hobo mixture many musical influences. The sound of the band is not premeditated or planned. It is very natural and spontaneous. They don't try to copy anyone else and have always avoided being labelled or categorised and feel comfortable with not being part of any ?movement' or ?style'.
Even with a strong ?song writing' approach the band often improvise with songs such as Amour & psyche and Anarchie ambiante, the improvisations often breaking out into a kind of psychedelic jazz trance.
Technicolor hobo released their first album ?Anthems for the lost? on their own label Abstract sensations in October 2008, which is available on all internet outlets as well as in local shops and the Rough trade record store in London.
Patrick Atkinson who instigated this project was born and raised in London. As a young child he absorbed the sounds that London were listening to. From Glam to Punk. It's the energy, the look, the songs that made him when a teenager buy his first guitar and form Elastic hair, a North London band playing their Alternative pop. He then joined the band John Moore and the Expressway as guitarist. After leaving this rock n roll experience and having worked with several bands in London he moved to Paris in search for new inspiration and found that the Parisian vibe helped him capture the ideas that had been bouncing around his mind. A first band Sinbad was formed and they hooked up with Cinefeel who were organising film events with VJs projecting images onto screens around the stage whilst Sinbad improvised their music. Technicolor Hobo was then formed when Patrick moved down to Marseilles. The band is now based in Marseilles.
