Steve Wiest

Steve Wiest is a musician who performed from 1981-1986 as the featured trombonist and one of the arrangers for Maynard Ferguson's Band. Now a Grammy nominated arranger and Associate Professor in the Jazz Studies Division of the College of Music at the University of North Texas, he lives and teaches in Denton TX and currently records for the Arabesque Recordings label. In 2006 he contributed heavily to the final Maynard Ferguson shows & album and released his own project "Excalibur: The Steve Wiest Big Band".

His most recent release as of late 2008 is called "Out of The New" and reinterprets contemporary rock songs from Coldplay, Maroon 5, Green Day etc through arrangements for a hot jazz Quintet featuring Steve Wiest on trombone, Fred Hamilton on guitar, Stefan Karlsson on piano, Lynn Seaton on bass, and Ed Soph on drums.
