Sound Menagerie are a Cambridge UK based psych/pop band with leanings towards a unique combination of both gothic and mod styles. Their influences are very wide ranging, but generally encompass most forms of psychedelia, particularly the 1960's output of greats such as Syd Barret/PinkFloyd, The Beatles, The Beach Boys, The Zombies and The Pretty Things, but also more obscure psych artists from the past 40 years such as Tomorrow, July, Jennifer Gentle, Broadcast and The Aquarian Age to name but a few.
Other influences include Siouxsie, The Damned, Adam Ant, The Kinks, Oasis, Echobelly, Saint Etienne, The Cure and Simon and Garfunkel. The most important aspect of the songs and performances for Sound Menagerie is to avoid the obvious and take the music and the listener into unexpected directions melodically and structurally.
Steve C Wilson is the main songwriter in Sound Menagerie, and performs all the instrumentation on this album, with Abi Parker on vocals. Abi contributed to the songwriting on three of the tracks on this album - 'Colour Of The Rose', 'My Time' and 'Another Night'.
The present line-up is;
Abi Parker - vocals/b.vocals
Steve C Wilson - guitars/bass/backing vocals
Far Or Through, the second album from Sound Menagerie, is a very melodic, psychedelic and colourful album containing 12 tracks (10 songs and 2 instrumentals). The sound has been described as "sublime timpanic membrane enhancement".
Sound Menagerie had spent over 8 months at number 1 on the Reverbnation charts for their region in the UK at the time of writing this, and have been awarded artist of the month by DJUKRed, from Woody radio, for June 2011, as well as recently being a featured artist at IMGlobal.
