Buffalo, NY is a city known mostly for its ever-changing weather. It can be likewise be said that Sleeping Kings of Iona are known mostly for their ever-changing sound. What started out in 2000 as a jangly guitar driven, shimmering post-rock five piece, has since evolved into something more electronic, more beat driven, just something more. They're driven by creativity and just letting mistakes happen.
They're driven by creativity and just letting mistakes happen. They make music that makes them happy and strive to pass that on to the hearts of all they meet. They find their influences in their friends, in films they watch, in sounds they hear, and in things they see and feel.
In 2003 and 2004 they independently released an electronic EP entitled "Faith (Our Return)", and two full length albums of more traditional instrumentation: "Woods of Sharp Teeth", and "Under a Mountain". All three releases were received well, but those who were familiar with the band's live show knew that the music of Sleeping Kings of Iona depended on a delicate balance between complex programming and raw live energy.
Enter "...Love In The Streets"
"We Found A Love In The Streets But It Was Not Ours." Was the first SKOI record to really represent what the band does live. Up to that point the records were either mostly electronic, or almost none at all. The warm pop soundscapes of "...love in the streets" all depend on that delicate balance, which is at the heart of Sleeping Kings of Iona.
Their enthusiasm is infectious, earning them shows with Mogwai, The Rapture, Cooper Temple Clause, Mono, Calla, Now It's Overhead, Growing, and The Bravery .
