Tasmanian born songstress Ange Boxall is a genuine troubadour whose sound is reflected in the same way that she likes to travel, drawing inspiration from Australia, England and America. Her Singer- Songwriter style is largely described as Americana but you could say that it is actually Tasmaniana! Tasmania (named ?Tassie' by locals) is a heart-shaped island off the south-eastern coast of Australia. It is about as remote as you can get.
Tasmania (named ?Tassie' by locals) is a heart-shaped island off the south-eastern coast of Australia. It is about as remote as you can get. The island is diverse in it geography with mountains, lakes, rainforest, gum-tree filled bush, farmland, vineyards and of course stretches and stretches of fine, white, sandy beaches. It has bred famous characters such as Errol Flynn and is also home to the Tasmanian Devil ? a small marsupial not to be reckoned with (while they do not bare a physical resemblance, apparently Ange is a direct descendant)!
Ange landed on the shores of England some ten years ago, with little more than a backpack and her Maton guitar, Pearl.
Planning to stay no longer than a year, the rich mix of European destinations, wonderful people and a diverse music scene have fueled the fire and nurtured a successful career. Her growing reputation has been helped with appearances in and around London with The Wagon Band.
However, not fully content, the draw from across the pond has been strong. Trips to the USA have been frequent and a blossoming love affair with Nashville's ?Music City' has seen collaborations with successful artists such as JD Souther, Jim Lauderdale and The Wrights, as heard on her new album, Writing Letters.
The album also comprises members from Ange's London-based Wagon Band along with Pedal Steel virtuoso, BJ Cole (Elton John, R.E.M, Cat Stevens, Bjork, Sting, Elvis Costello, Joan Armatrading).
Recent performances include showcases at Tamworth Country Music festival in Australia and the invitation of an official showcase at Folk Alliance in Memphis which saw the beginning of a six week tour across the USA, including showcases at SXSW in Austin.
Ange will be touring the UK and Ireland from late August into the first few weeks of September before another tour Stateside from late September through October.
