Biography:
S.O.S. owes you nothing. Made up solely of individuals who each have a well-respected hardcore history, the band is just a small piece of the truths and of the code the scene has shown us all. The idea of S.O.S first started to take shape around two years ago when Scott Vogel, front man for Terror, and Chris Beattie, bass player for Hatebreed, had discussed the possibility of making music together. The two had first met while touring the US together in 95, and their discussions were simply focused on making music without stress or complications. While there was some back and forth regarding other potential members, the idea took a more serious turn when Matt Henderson, former guitarist of Agnostic Front and Madball, agreed to be involved. This would be Matt's first formal involvement in a band in well over 5 years. For the next member, Vogel had to look no further than his own band mate, Terror drummer Nick Jett. Nick is razor sharp behind the drums and his ability as a prolific songwriter added another creative dimension. To round out the group and put the final piece in place, S.O.S. brought in guitarist Sam Trapkin from one of the best new bands hardcore has seen in years, Trapped Under Ice. Individually, the members of S.O.S. represent the past, present, and future of hardcore. While that warrants recognition in it's own right, the music and the spirit is what leads the charge for S.O.S.
The band got together over several New York winter days to record their debut EP. Each member contributed to all parts of the creative process, from every riff right down to the vocal patterns. At the helm of production was Dean Baltulonis, a producer and engineer who has been involved with some of the genre's most iconic recordings, and was a natural fit for the session. S.O.S. emerged with a concise, tried and true, no frills hardcore EP. Good Fight Music will be releasing the brand new debut sometime in late spring to early summer with the vinyl coming out through Reaper Records. Keep an eye out for upcoming news, as the band has assured there will be shows in the future for SOS. This is a distress call. We are in a state of alert.
2) Sex On Substance (SOS) is an uber-cool DJ alliance comprised of Londoners Demi, Desyn Masiello and OMID16B. Friends drawing inspiration from their rich musical heritage, and direction from their beloved Deeper Substance and Sexonwax music labels, SOS was born of a desire to create synergy. The multifaceted rule of threes helps give balance to scores of compositions and also appears to apply in favour of SOS. Individually, Demi, Desyn and Omid have already excelled in the realms of electronic/house music, however, sometimes three heads beat one, six hands are better then two. With a common goal to move people, the innovative triad exist in an exciting digital era when live remixing, personal edits and inimitable shows all allow for differentiation and this is where the dazzling SOS trailblazers shine with their icy-hot approach to DJing in the 21st century!
Quick to nurture this intoxicating synthesis, SOS was christened and an enthusiastic crowd who assembled at Neighbourhood nightclub in London were amongst the first to experience an SOS party during the Easter weekend of 2004. Later, in May 2005, the formidable threesome took to the river Thames in London for their first ever boat party (SOS On The Thames). Another raging success, this event was sold-out and more music lovers were instantly hooked. In terms of live performances, back-to-back or head-to-head, the expressive interplay between Demi, Desyn and Omid continues to develop. It was time to take the hypnotic SOS cocktail to the clubbing capital of the world and to the discerning 24-hour party people of Ibiza. Adored by its crowds, they played twice at parties held in conjunction with Ibiza-Voice.com at El Ayoun, and on three occasions for Dirty at Penelope. It was a magical summer with the triumphant team also presenting SOS On the Thames Part 2 in August 2005, this time in association with DJ Magazines portal DJDownload.com.
These technologically savvy DJ deviants work the mix with supernatural precision and have proven that there is no other party in the world like an SOS party. 2006 marks SOSs third season, a year when their first SOS compilation mix CD will be released, they are sponsored by music industry favs Pioneer, and where they have shocked the globe with their highly acclaimed Essential Mix for BBC Radio 1 that has been broadcasted to millions, back in March this year. Their now legendary Ibiza events at El Ayoun have become a firm fixture in the opening and closing weekends of the season and their efforts have been rewarded with a nomination as Best Newcomer in this years annual Ibiza DJ Awards.
