Royal Downfall was formed in Ume?, Sweden, in September 2002. The band plays indie rock with a touch of post-punk, barbed wire guitars, whirlwind drums and social critique. Their debut album, 8-16, was released by the Swedish record label Planekonomi in September 2003. Since December 2003 you can also download the entire album for free from the band's official web site: www.royaldownfall.org. The band's own label, Luftslott, released the new Royal Downfall album These Means Have No End on December 3, 2007.

The lineup consists of Fredrik Lindkvist, Robert Tenevall, Johan Philipsson and Janne Olofsson. Members of Royal Downfall can also be seen in hardcore/punk bands like Totalt Jävla Mörker and Knugen Faller.
