Roger was born in Shreveport, Louisiana and is well known as the original guitarist in Jimmy Buffett's Coral Reefer band. In the early days it was just Jimmy and Roger. Two acoustic guitars and vocals. Later, Jimmy added Greg "Fingers" Taylor on harp and keyboard, Harry Dailey on bass and Phillip Fajardo on drums. Roger is also infamous as the singer and writer of the song "Fool for a Blonde" in the classic horror movie "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre," and from the many incarnations of his own bands, including the blues band, Hell's Kitchen and his newest band Scratch 'n' Sniff.
His many influences include Eric Clapton, Sly Stone, Sarah Bareilles, Chuck Loeb, Herbie Hancock, The Beatles, Joe Satriani, Django Reinhardt, James Brown, James Taylor, Miles Davis, Stevie Wonder, Stevie Ray Vaughn, John Mayer, Prince, B.B. King, Albert King, Freddie King, MIke Stern and Pebble Daniel.
The music Roger plays is a combination of rock, funk, blues and a touch of jazz. Hard to categorize, but unmistakable.
