n the 1960's, Powell St. John began playing at parties and clubs around the University of Texas. Working with Kenneth Threadgill of Threadgill's Bar, he performed with Janis Joplin and Lanny Wiggins in a trio called The Waller Creek Boys. St. John wrote six songs for the 13th Floor Elevators first two albums. In the late 60's, Powell formed a blues and rock band with Tracy Nelson named Mother Earth.
