Born in San Francisco and raised in Berkeley a generation into the free speech movement, Owen Roberts' songwriting has been called "a gritty, folksy acoustic melange that manages an edgy side." After five years in New York, Owen and beer brewing slide guitarist Greg Peters have been establishing themselves as an up and coming northern California with frequent tours along the west coast. Influenced by Manu Chao's multi-lingual songwriting, Xavier Rudd and Ben Harper's swampy lap steel guitar, Nick Drake's lyric writing, Leo Kottke's fingerstyle guitar and Sam Cooke's soul, Owen Roberts and the Brewer have developed a sound of their own that slides smoothly from gritty and hard hitting to mellow and whimsical. Owen's poignant lyrics and fingerstyle guitar combined with Greg's masterful lap steel playing create a powerfully dynamic and unpredictable sound.
