No North was active in Los Angeles from 2000-2006. Formed around Ken Dolman and Jon Schlesinger at its core they played with a rotating cast of musicians including Greg Richling of the Wallflowers, and Korel Tunador of Goo Goo Dolls. The band cultivated an audience in Los Angeles at venues like Hotel Cafe, Spaceland, Knitting Factory & The Echo. The band's self released albums drew critical praise and eventually won them European support with Country Fire Records in the UK and Kitty-Yo in Berlin.

A 2005 UK tour and release of Beyond the Black included a top 30 album on iTunes, and international press in Mojo Magazine, and Maverick. In the US, they shared stages with: Daniel Lanois, Mike Watt, Stan Ridgeway,The Earlies, Akron Family, El Ten Eleven, and radio play in Los Angeles, Austin, and on NPR and XM. They licensed a song for NBC Universal, and performed at South By Southwest 2006 in Austin, TX.
