Their sound, while sometimes reminiscent of the golden age of pop, rock and soul, is nonetheless thoroughly modern.
Born and raised in New York City, lead singer, songwriter, and producer Michael Miller has been singing, writing and performing for much of his life, growing up on the urban and popular music emanating into and out of that vibrant city.
Joining him is his brother, Dan Miller, NSO's executive- and co-producer on their debut offering, and long-time friend and keyboardist/musical director/co-producer, Chris Phillips, both native New Yorkers with years of experience in music production and arranging.
All three grew up listening to an ecclectic mix of great music -- artists ranging from The Beatles and Steely Dan to Earth, Wind & Fire and Stevie Wonder -- as well as to contemporary pop, R&B and hip-hop groups. Combined, they bring a wealth of musical influence and skill, each contributing to the arrangements of the rhythm section and five-piece Orchestra (a string trio and two horns) and the shaping of the sound that is classic Soul, but with a distinctly New sound...
The result of this collaborative vision can only be defined as New Soul Orchestra.
