Nectarine were from Chicago and released one album, Sterling Beat, in 1994 on Grass Records. They also had many 7"s and compilation appearances. They toured with Silkworm, the Wrens, Edsel, Red Red Meat, Built to Spill, Jessamine and many others. They recorded a 2nd album, the much fabled "White Light/White Heat" which caused them to not only be dropped by their label, but also break up. Their final show was in May of 1997 at Metro in Chicago with Built to Spill.
Nectarine began as a lo-fi indie rock band, but after years of touring developed into a bizarre free rock improv group. They loved playing noisy, drone filled shows, but few listeners enjoyed hearing them. Nectarine challenged their audience to follow their interpretation of what VU would have sounded like if Ornette Coleman and Don Cherry had played guitar.
