Mysteriam plays Hi-Tech Rock, and has been compared to Radiohead, Beck, Nine Inch Nails, and Future Sound of London. Always aiming to arrest the audience by being both danceable and unpredictable, the group stages variations on its striking originals through structured improvisation. The shows' atmospheres are thrillingly enhanced with onstage video monitors and theatrical elements. The band is led by Corbett Lunsford...
The band is led by Corbett Lunsford, a musician whose work has been commissioned by dance and theatre companies across North America, and whose improvisational skill was honed through multi-instrumental study from an early age and by touring nationally and abroad with The Second City as Music Director. Lunsford is joined by Matt Cordier, whose drumming has been heard with touring bands on stages across the country. Both players attended Berklee College of Music, and like the late John Cage, they improvise accompaniment for contemporary dance.
Video artist Enders Lyman, an inventive and energetic onstage collaborator with backgrounds in animation and electronics, provides live visuals. The group is also often graced by guest appearances from other Mysteriam members such as the ManMan, aka Lennie Johnson, a famed Viennese performance artist and songstress.
Since 2005, Mysteriam (the entire scope of which has involved 30+ artists) has been incredibly busy with international collaborations, the release of an experimental music video series, the production and editing of a grant-funded 10-hour improvised recording session, a tour in Thailand recording audio and video material, and supporting the work of the individual creators, many of whom are full-time artists. The group is promoting its new album, "Entryway," a complex layering of pop and electronic elements.
The group has begun touring regionally and nationally in 2007, presenting a thrilling fusion of catchy chaos and electronic components and processes.
