Monty Love was a pop-punk/hardcore band from Staten Island, NY. The band went by the names Monty (vocals), Gravy (bass), Debo (drums) and Money (guitar). The band was relatively unknown outside of the New York City area, but could amass large crowds of local fans at now defunct hometown venues Dock St. (Staten Island) and the Temple (Brooklyn). Despite years of songs and self-released CD's, the band only had one formal record on Immigrant Sun Records entitled 'Girls are the New Boys'. The 25-track CD was compromised of 19 new songs (including two covers) and six re-recorded oldies.
The band's live show was known for it's high amounts of raw energy and attitude. Every song was a sing-a-long and fans would move, dance, mosh and let loose. Monty Love and crew were responsible for throwing and headlining a yearly Christmas bash every year on Staten Island that over the years featured Quantice Never Crashed, Kevin Devine with Jesse Lacey (of Brand New), Folly and more. The sixth annual Monty Love Xmas Spectacular in 2005 was the band's final show. The band officially announced their break-up on June 1st, 2006 after Gravy canceled their previously scheduled show at Dock St. on May 20th. Gravy had grown significantly tired of practicing and playing shows and the group felt it wouldn't be the same if they replaced him. The band had previously planned to record something new that summer but officially played their last show at the seventh annual Xmas Spectacular. But in October of 2009 they planned the 8th annual Christmas show at Dock St. with veteran bands in the Staten Island punk scene the bands Sink You Fool and Kids Carry Germs who were playing there first christmas show. And returning veterans who also reunited for the show Quantice Never Crashed. The reason for the reunion because Monty Love played there last show without Quantice and Monty of Monty Love didn't think it would be right to play a last show without Quantice Never Crashed. The last show was supposed to be Dec.19th 2009 but because of a bad snow storm it was canceled. When everyone though Monty Love wouldn't play again they were lucky enough to get the show booked 1 day before Christmas Eve. So it was a Christmas miracle and Monty Love played there last show in front of packed out Dock St. on Dec 23th 2009 . Lets hope for a 9th annual show in 2010.
