MiLkBabY (1997-2008) was an improvisational trance tribal outfit founded by Barry Bennett (Impending Behavior Orchestra, Bombbone, Dr. Bonobo...) and David Lee Smith (DavidLy, froggy burger, ebaby). The "classic" trio (1997-2001), along with Tracee Westmorland (push ups, ebaby) recorded three albums and were a dark powerful presence on stage drawing comparisons to nurse with wound, zoivet france, and dead can dance with shows that are still talked about in the Chicago region today.
In 2001, following the release of Strange Jukebox and an american tour that began on 9/11, Smith and Westmoreland went to Europe to test the waters... they never moved back to the states.
over the next year and a half, Bennett performed solo, put together various combos, and released two short run EPs under the moniker, MiLkBabY pRimiTive.
in late 2002, Bennett (with Smith and Westmoreland's blessing) revived MiLkBabY a going concern enlisting long-time friend and collaborator, Darren Shepherd (belmondos, umbra, figments) to play guitar. MiLkBabY recorded and album, greetings from the north mission, and embarked on an american tour in 2004. After that tour, Sophie Senard (belmondos, figments) made the group a trio once again and the group released 2006's , BottLe, to some of the best critical reception of MiLkBabY's history. During this period, MiLkBabY began incorporating the fantastic projection art of Kristin Reeves into the live show and made her a full member of the group in 2007. In 2008, Bennett disbanded MiLkBabY on friendly terms to create the performance group,The Impending Behavior Orchestra, with reeves. Bennett still serves as artistic director of IBO and will be releasing his first record under his own name on Uvulittle Records in 2010.
